  • Helping Homeless Seniors

We are working to secure 15,000 hotel and motel rooms to serve our seniors experiencing homelessness.

If you know someone who is experiencing homelessness, senior or not, please have them call 800-548-6047 or visit www.la-hop.org.

  • Small Business Assistance Program

I have pushed for the creation of a $28 million Small Business Assistance Program to help hundreds of small businesses and nonprofits weather this economic downturn.

For more information about how to access available funds visit the County’s Disaster Help Center at www.lacountyhelpcenter.org, or call 833-238-4450.

  • Grocery Workers

We have all come to appreciate the lifesaving jobs of our essential workers — those who make it possible for us to shop in grocery stores.

That’s why I pushed the County to pass a new ordinance requiring employers to see to it that these workers have everything the need in the way of protective equipment and materials to stay safe.

  • Testing and Demographic Data Collection

Lastly, we are all affected by this pandemic, one way or another. But it has become increasingly clear that the disease is having a disproportionate impact on the certain community.

Initial data from the CDC is disturbing, indicating that African Americans are dying at a rate disproportionate to their percentage of the population.

While L.A. County has moved to expand testing and make it widely available to everyone, I have also called for the County Department of Public Health to collect the necessary data at our sites.

If you have COVID-19 symptoms -OR- if you have been exposed to someone that has tested positive, please call 211 or visit www.COVID19.lacounty.gov/testing.

We will get through this. But we can only do that if we take steps right now to develop a data-driven approach to providing the appropriate and pertinent public health services.
